Drawing from my experience as a child of an incarcerated parent, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact of the American prison system on countless lives. This reality, coupled with corporations' significant financial resources funneled into prisons, has shaped my perspective. Moreover, the current crisis facing contemporary America has influenced the rephrasing of the text on the back, reflecting the urgent need for change and awareness.

Repurposed fabrics, patches, keys, beads, locks, rosary, and other embellishments. Hand appliqué and embroidery. Hand and machine stitched.

Explore the parallels and stigmas of gardening and textile work. This project explores the meditative space and cultural stigmas of both gardening and stitch art expressed as a playful, abundant textile garden.

By creating this 3-D textile garden, I’m examining the relationship between plants and overall health and its sister meditation: sewing and stitching. Watering and tending our gardens and mending and making clothes and home goods releases stress, provides comfort, and adds an interconnectedness between nature and nurture. These elements now hold space with anyone looking to live a more self-sufficient, less wasteful lifestyle.

Repurposed textiles and pot planters. Hand and machine-sewn with poly and cotton Sashiko thread.
