Nicki Stewart is a textile artist, educator, and curator. Her work explores themes around gender, ancestry, social structures, and environment. Nicki uses repurposed garments and textiles as canvases to embroider stories of connection, shared experiences, and trauma, inviting viewers to engage with them in meaningful ways.
Sustainability and regeneration are central to her storytelling. She believes in the mental and environmental benefits of mending and the value of reviving and reusing materials in a more circular approach to living, wearing, and experiencing art. By expanding on stories of women’s history, incarceration, and mental health, she hopes to establish a deeper connection to shared experiences in her work.
